She was repeatedly hospitalized due frequent need parenteral fluid, electrolyte, nutrient imbalances. Stagnation body weight slow height were accompanied by weakened gross motor strength slowed psychophysical development. exploit conservative treatment measures, stimulation initiated drug 6 months therapy, progress observed parameters, well intelligence quotient abilities. Conclusion. challenging entity every clinician, its previous therapy has mainly consisted substitution nutrients, fluids, electrolytes. Surgical carries risk loss lifelong immunosuppression. The pharmacological possibilities promoting using drugs teduglutide represent light at end tunnel patients

Extensive intestinal resection impairs the absorptive capacity and results in short-bowel syndrome-associated intestinal failure (SBS-IF), when fluid, electrolyte, acid-base, micro-, and macronutrient homeostasis cannot be maintained on a conventional oral diet. Several factors, including the length and site of the resected intestine, anatomical conformation of the remnant bowel, and the degree...

Emerging treatment options for short bowel syndrome: potential role of teduglutide

INTRODUCTION Current medical management of short bowel syndrome (SBS) involves the use of lifelong parenteral nutrition (PN). Glucagon-like peptide-2 (GLP-2), an important intestinotrophic growth factor has been shown to increase intestinal absorption in SBS through augmentation of post-resection intestinal adaptation. This may lead to the reduction of PN dependence in patients with SBS. AREA...
